Conscientes desta necessidade, traçamos a tradução e adaptação do Emotion Regulation for Children and Adolescents (ERQ-CA, Gullone & Taffe, 2011), para adolescentes portugueses, como o principal objetivo desta dissertação.
Literature has been very important throw several decades because of the way each person sets, guides and shapes his emotions after they were activated, practicing its influence on his behaviour, but also on the matter which each person re-establishes his balance and adjusts himself to the reality, after trying any given emotion, ensuring an adaptive acting (Martins, 20007). In an unfinished discussion on these assumptions, validation and adaptation of the instruments specifically developed to evaluate the regulation of emotions is the cornerstone to the continuity of the reflection in this matters. Aware of this need, we draw the translation and adaptation of Emotion Regulation for Children and Adolescents (ERQ-CA & Taffe, 2011), for Portuguese teenagers, as the main goal of this dissertation. Subsequently we propose ourselves to explore the relationships between the regulation of emotions, personality and behaviour caractheristics on teenagers and the differences on regulation of emotions according gender and age. The outcomes were achieved due to the participation of 282 teenagers, of both genders with ages comprehended between 12 and 15 years old that attend the graduate school at Viseu district. The Portuguese version that we present from ERQ-CA shows good psicometric qualities, comparable to the original version. The confirmatory factorial analysis replicates the internal structure, composed by two factors related to emotion regulation that explain 45% of the total variance. The internal consistence analysis revealed itself appropriate and the validity of the content was confirmed. The correlational studies have confirmed the theoretical assumptions, revealing that the less functional personality caractheristics are related negatively with the more adaptive strategies of emotion regulation (“Cognitive Re-evaluation”) and positively with less adaptive regulation strategies (“Emotional Suppression”). The regulation of emotions happens differently according to gender, but not according to age. The prediction analysis reveals less significant results
