Caretos de Podence: História, Património e Turismo

Abstract

A festa dos “Caretos de Podence” é uma manifestação cultural festiva que decorre anualmente nos dias de Entrudo na aldeia de Podence, no nordeste transmontano. Mas os Caretos, os protagonistas da festa, conhecem hoje um raio de ação que vai para lá da aldeia de Podence e do tempo de Entrudo. Intitulada “Caretos de Podence: Historia, Património e Turismo”, esta dissertação visa apresentar o caso dos Caretos de Podence dilucidando sobre algumas questões relacionadas com a história, o património e o turismo. Inicialmente é feita uma análise à história que precede e contextualiza o fenómeno em estudo. Neste capítulo relaciona-se a cumplicidade entre o espaço rural e agrário, o tempo de inverno e o Homem religioso para a criação e manutenção de fórmulas rituais e festivas. Analisa-se depois as diversas festividades cíclicas de inverno das sociedades agrárias ao longo da história da Humanidade estabelecendo relações entre elas e as atuais festas de inverno com máscaras do nordeste transmontano. Seguidamente dedica-se um capítulo às questões do património. O ponto de partida é a festa dos Caretos de Podence nos meados do séc. XX segundo os testemunhos da população local. Depois procura-se entender as transformações da sociedade rural portuguesa à qual Podence não foi alheia, para melhor perceber os movimentos e permanências no património cultural em geral e no Entrudo Chocalheiro em particular. Ainda na mesma parte, constata-se que a festa de inverno com máscaras se extinguiu na maioria das povoações transmontanas e leonesas e que Podence foi uma rara exceção pelo que se olha com algum detalhe para os principais fatores determinantes dessa excecionalidade. Olha-se ainda para a relação entre os visitantes, os habitantes da aldeia e o património cultural. Finalmente estabelece-se um enquadramento do turismo de Podence no contexto histórico do turismo internacional para depois determinar as causas e consequências da sua evolução recente. Ainda nesta parte da dissertação analisa-se e reflete-se sobre as influências e interdependências entre os Caretos de Podence e os visitantes e termina-se com a análise da festa na atualidade.

The feast of "Caretos of Podence" is a festive cultural event that takes place annually in the days of Carnival in the village of Podence in Trás-os-Montes. But Caretos, the protagonists of this feast, now meet a range of action that goes beyond the village of Podence and Carnival time. Entitled "Caretos of Podence: History, Heritage and Tourism", this work aims at presenting the case of Caretos of Podence explaining some issues related to the history, heritage and tourism. We begin with an analysis of the history that precedes and contextualizes the phenomenon under study. The first chapter relates to the complicity between the countryside, the winter time and the religious Human for creating and maintaining rituals and festive formulas. Then analyzes the various cyclical festivities winter of agrarian societies throughout human history establishing relationships between them and the current winter holidays with the Northeast masks. The next chapter is dedicated to heritage issues with the feast of Caretos of Podence, of the middle of the century XX - according to the testimony of local people - as the starting point. It seeks as well to understand the transformations of the Portuguese rural society, which will Podence was not alien, to better understand the movements and stays in “Entrudo Chocalheiro”. Still on the same part, we will see that the winter celebration with masks became extinct in most North Portuguese and Leonese towns and that Podence was a rare exception at that, and we will look in some detail for the major determinants of this exceptionality. It also looks at the relationship between visitors, the villagers and the cultural heritage. Finally establishes a Podence tourism position of the historical context of international tourism to then determine the causes and consequences of recent developments. Also in this part of the dissertation, we will analyzes and reflect on the influences and interdependencies between Caretos of Podence and visitors, and ending the chapter with the analysis of the nowadays feast.
