Katabasis e Psyche em Platão

Abstract

Platão foi e continua a ser um dos filósofos mais influentes do pensamento Ocidental. A modernidade de suas teorias alcança ainda hoje relevância em muitas áreas do conhecimento humano. O estudo da psyche humana em seu filosofar revela uma profunda reflexão acerca de fatores psíquicos que circundam o comportamento e as ações da vida particular e pública da humanidade. Para tanto, o filósofo ateniense recorre a uma imagem muito cara à antiguidade: a katabasis. É por meio desta imagem, comum a vários mythoi da antiguidade, que Platão teoriza acerca da responsabilidade moral da psyche. Será discutido neste trabalho, portanto, como o filósofo utiliza-se de mythoi originários para sustentar a psyche enquanto responsável pelo seu próprio destino. Entende-se por mythos originário histórias ligadas a façanhas divinas. Para utilizar um mythos originário, todavia, Platão altera e substitui muitos de seus elementos, a fim de recriá-lo. Com isto, o filósofo sustenta, pela diferença entre o mythos originário e a recriação que faz deste mythos, suas próprias teorias acerca da psyche humana. O filósofo também opera pela criação de alguns mythoi, que neste trabalho são chamados de mythoi alegóricos. Por meio de tais mythoi, Platão elabora teorias que sustentam o melhoramento da psyche e a responsabilidade que esta tem sobre o destino da polis. É nesse sentido que a katabasis torna-se elemento fundamental em Platão, uma vez que oferece uma imagem mítica que lhe permite alterar a ideia da descida por um mergulho psíquico da psyche, para poder alcançar níveis de percepção mais elevados e assumir um estágio de compreensão da realidade que a coloque em uma posição favorável a seu melhoramento e ao melhoramento da polis.

Plato was and continues to be one of the most influential philosophers of Western thought. The modernity of his theories is still relevant in many areas of human knowledge. The study of the human psyche in his philosophy reveals a profound reflection on psychological factors that surround the behavior and the actions of private and public life of humanity. Thus, the Athenian philosopher uses an image that is very important to antiquity: the katabasis. Through this image, which is common to several mythoi of antiquity, Plato theorizes about the moral responsibility of the psyche. Therefore, this work aims to discuss how the philosopher uses originating mythoi to sustain the idea that the psyche is responsible for its own destiny. The term “originating mythos” means stories that are linked to divine exploits. However, aiming to use an originating mythos, Plato amends and replaces many of its elements in order to recreate it. Thus, by differentiating between the originating mythos and its re-creation, the philosopher supports its own theories about the human psyche. The philosopher also creates some mythoi which, in this work, are called allegorical mythoi. Through such mythoi, Plato elaborates theories that support the improvement of the psyche and its responsibility with regards to the destiny of the polis. In this sense, the katabasis becomes a key element in Plato, since it provides a mythical image that allows him to amend the idea of the descent by a psychic dive of the psyche, enabling it to reach higher levels of perception and to assume a stage of understanding reality that places it in a favorable position regarding its own improvement as well as the improvement of the polis.
