e-Lis: análise da participação dos investigadores portugueses no maior repositório para a Ciência da Informação

Abstract

O repositório e-Lis – e-Prints in Library and Information Science, criado em 2003, celebra neste ano de 2013 dez anos de existência. Trata-se do maior repositório para a Ciência da Informação (CI) e actualmente disponibiliza gratuitamente cerca de 15.000 documentos, alinhando-se, deste modo, aos princípios do acesso aberto (open access). Este projecto internacional, constituído por uma equipa de voluntários de 30 países, tem como principal objectivo divulgar e promover a disseminação da literatura sobre a CI produzida pelos investigadores, bibliotecários, arquivistas e documentalistas de todo o mundo. Portugal integrou este projecto em 2006 e, desde então, tem vindo a cumprir a política comum do e-Lis de conferir visibilidade e acessibilidade à produção científica portuguesa na área da CI de forma gratuita, através da divulgação e promoção do e-Lis junto da comunidade e investigadores portugueses e pelo comprometimento com os princípios do acesso aberto (AA). Este artigo tem como objectivos (re)lembrar os principais objectivos e as principais características e funcionalidades do e-Lis e apresentar alguns dados quantitativos relativamente a este repositório e à colaboração e participação dos investigadores portugueses nele. Constatámos que a presença de autores portugueses neste repositório temático ainda é reduzida, quando comparada com os restantes países europeus, por exemplo, pese embora a produção científica na área da CI em Portugal e sua disponibilização em AA tenha aumentado nos últimos anos.

The e-Lis – e-Prints in Library and Information Science repository, established in 2003, celebrates this year ten years of existence. It is the largest repository for Science Information (IS) and currently provides about 15,000 free documents, aligning thereby the principles of open access (OA). This international project, consisting of a team of volunteers from 30 countries, has as main objective to disseminate and promote the literature on the IS produced by researchers, librarians, archivists and documentalists worldwide. Portugal joined the project in 2006 and, since then, has implemented the common policy of e-Lis, providing visibility and accessibility to the Portuguese scientific production in the field of IS free of charge, through the dissemination and promotion of e-Lis with the Portuguese researchers and community, and commitment to the principles of OA. This article aims to remember the main objectives, features and functionalities of the e-Lis and to present some quantitative data on this repository and on the collaboration and participation of Portuguese researchers on it. We found that the presence of the Portuguese authors in this repository is still small compared with other European countries, for example, despite the scientific production in the field of IS in Portugal and its availability in AA has increased in recent years.
