A ocupação romana na Bacia de Celorico

Abstract

Apresentam-se os principais resultados da prospecção arqueológica realizada na Bacia de Celorico. No âmbito desta investigação, tendo como ponto de partida a classificação tipológica de todos os núcleos de povoamento romano aqui existentes (alguns deles inéditos), procurou-se analisar o padrão de povoamento (disperso e agrupado) desta região do interior norte da Lusitânia e apontar propostas para a sua geografia política na Antiguidade. Apresentam-se, igualmente, os primeiros resultados das escavações arqueológicas que dirigimos na estação arqueológica de S. Gens, os quais dão a conhecer com mais detalhe este habitat romano. Apesar da classificação tipológica proposta não ser ainda definitiva, os conhecimentos obtidos permitiram obter uma primeira perspectiva de ordem construtiva e cronológica sobre este núcleo rural de povoamento romano. Com base neste conjunto de dados recolhidos em escavação e prospecção (que incluem novos achados, como seja uma inscrição consagrada a Júpiter e uma cabeça de uma estátua), e nas informações proporcionadas pela análise dos resultados de outras intervenções realizadas – no âmbito da arqueologia preventiva e de investigação – na área da Bacia de Celorico e em áreas contíguas, procede-se a uma análise global das formas de ocupação e exploração deste território em época romana.

We present the main results of archaeological survey conducted in Celorico Basin. Within this research, taking as its starting point the typological classification of all the nucleuses of Roman settlement here existent (some of them unpublished), we tried to analyze the pattern of settlement (dispersed and clustered) within this region of northern Lusitania and point proposals for his political geography in the antiquity. We present also the first results of archaeological excavations in the archaeological station of S. Gens, which give more detail to know this Roman habitat. Despite the typological classification proposal is not yet definitive, the obtained knowledge allowed a first perspective of constructive and chronological order about this rural village of Roman settlement. Based on this data set collected in excavation and mining (including new findings, such as an inscription dedicated to Jupiter and a head of a statue), and the information provided by the analysis of the results of other interventions - in the context of preventive archeology and research - in the basin area of Celorico and adjacent areas, there shall be a comprehensive review of the forms of occupation and exploitation of the territory in Roman times.
