Letras electrónicas : uma reflexão sobre os livros digitais

Abstract

Este estudo tem como tema central a evolução tecnológica pela qual passa atualmente o acesso à leitura, tendo como base a utilização dos livros electrónicos e dos dispositivos de leitura e como a sociedade vem se relacionando com os processos de mudança em relação à inserção destes recursos no cotidiano dos leitores. A revolução tecnológica e os conceitos de Sociedade de Informação foram os pontos iniciais para compreender as novas tecnologias relacionadas à literatura, utilizadas como forma de ampliar o acesso a obras literárias, uma vez que a busca por informações na atualidade rompe as fronteiras físicas e se coloca em um acesso mundial. Para tal foi realizado o histórico das transformações vivenciadas nos últimos 40 anos, seguido do levantamento das tecnologias mais utilizadas atualmente no âmbito da leitura, bem como, o fluxo literário de publicações em língua portuguesa que se encontram disponíveis em formato electrónico nas plataformas online. Em paralelo, a investigação também buscou entender como o utilizador reage a essas novas ferramentas, e como se dá a relação de duas vias, na qual uma corresponde à mudança no hábito da leitura, e a outra, na maior facilidade no acesso às obras literárias. Neste sentido a amostra da pesquisa se restringiu a comunidade académica da Universidade de Coimbra, especificamente o corpo discente, docente e bibliotecários das Faculdade de Letras, Psicologia e Ciências da Educação, Economia e do departamento de Engenharia Informática da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia.

The central theme of this study is the current technological evolution in the access of literature, based on the use of electronic books and according reading devices and how society reacts to these transformation processes regarding the integration of these new features in the daily lives of the readers. The technological revolution and the concepts of the knowledge-based society were the starting points for understanding these new technologies related to literature, used as a means of expanding the access to literary works, since the search for information today breaks physical boundaries and is accessible worldwide. To this end the history of the changes experienced in the last 40 years was briefly discussed, followed by an evaluation of the currently used reading technologies as well as the literary fluctuation of literary publications in portuguese that are available in an electronic format at online-based platforms. In parallel, the investigation also sought to understand how the user reacts to these new instruments and how the change in reading habits on the one hand and the greater ease of access of literary works on the other relate to one another. This being said, the sample of the research was restricted to the academic community of the University of Coimbra, specifically the students, professors and librarians of the Faculty of Letters, Psychology and Educational Sciences, Economy and of the department of Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology.
