O drama dos Atridas. A tragédia Thyestes de Séneca

Abstract

Faz-se uma leitura da tragédia senequiana Thyestes, à luz da análise estilística e ideológica de passos representativos. A expressão retórica e poético-dramática, em torno de palavras-chave, de áreas semânticas que o autor quer vincar, de forma impressiva, é posta ao serviço da moralização, da parenese, numa apropriação do êthos, do pathos. Pela mensagem política e humana que veicula, além de documento vivo da sua época, torna-se paradigma do teatro de horror, da maior fortuna, no teatro moderno.

We suggest a reading of Seneca’s tragedy Thyestes, focussing on the stylistic and ideological analysis of representative passages. The rhetorical, poetic and dramatic expression, revolving around keywords and semantic areas the author wishes to stress impressively, is made to serve the purpose of moralisation and parenesis, incorporating both êthos and pathos. The political and human message it conveys, combined with the fact that it embodies the living testimony of its time, transform it into the paradigm of horror drama, a genre largely revived in modern stage.
