Prensa Latina: nascimento da Agência "revolucionária" cubana de notícias no contexto da Guerra Fria

Abstract

A revolução cubana teve na Agência Prensa Latina a sua principal arma informativa para o exterior. Poucas semanas após ter conquistado o poder, Fidel Castro anunciou a sua criação e assumiu que o desafio era fazer dela uma grande agência de notícias latino-americana. Dirigida pelo argentino Jorge Masetti, amigo de Che Guevara, a Prensa Latina reuniu jornalistas de vários países da região, pagou salários muito acima da média e foi um instrumento vital do processo revolucionário cubano no contexto da Guerra Fria.

The cuban revolution had in the Prensa Latina Agency its main weapon for informing the outside world. A few weeks after taking power, Fidel Castro announced its creation and assumed that the challenge was to make it a major latin american news agency. Headed by the argentine Jorge Masetti, a closer friend of Che Guevara, Prensa Latina brought together journalists from various countries in the region, having been paid salaries well above average and was a vital instrument of the cuban revolutionary process in the context of the Cold War.
