The cuban revolution had in the Prensa Latina Agency its main weapon for informing the outside world. A few weeks after taking power, Fidel Castro announced its creation and assumed that the challenge was to make it a major latin american news agency. Headed by the argentine Jorge Masetti, a closer friend of Che Guevara, Prensa Latina brought together journalists from various countries in the region, having been paid salaries well above average and was a vital instrument of the cuban revolutionary process in the context of the Cold War. |
