O Centro Democrático e Social (CDS) e a Construção da Democracia Portuguesa Da Tolerância Vigiada à Confirmação nas Urnas 1974-197

Abstract

O objectivo deste estudo é o de elaborar a história do Centro Democrático e Social (CDS) durante os anos de transição democrática (1974-1976) tentando perceber ao longo deste período o contributo deste Partido para a construção do Portugal Democrático. Ao mesmo tempo será enquadrado a evolução dos acontecimentos da Revolução portuguesa e a história do CDS para desta forma melhor se compreender não apenas a conjuntura mas as interligações que vão sendo construidas como reacção ao rumo dos acontecimentos vivenciados à época no quadro social, económico e político português. Este trabalho procura igualmente apresentar um partido que emerge pouco depois da Revolução dos Cravos, atraso este em relação a todos os outros que o irá condicionar ao longo de todo o seu percurso, representatividade e capacidade de captar um público mais alargado como foi o caso da exclusão dos governos provisórios e das comissões administrativas responsáveis pela gestão das autarquias logo em 1974. O ano de 1975 será igualmente um tempo de grandes desafios para o CDS e que começa com os incidentes do I Congresso realizado no Palácio de Cristal, no Porto, ao qual se segue o Golpe do 11 de Março e todas as implicações que teve para a conjuntura política e social do Portugal de então. As eleições para a Assembleia Constituinte outro dos pontos deste trabalho. O ano de 1975 será repleto de factos e acontecimentos nacionais no qual o CDS se vai envolver e assumir a sua responsabilidade como Partido fundador da Democracia Portuguesa com representação na Assembleia Constituinte.Os anos da transição democrática encerram com o ano de 1976 onde este trabalho se irá focar com mais atenção tentando perceber para melhor explicar a aprovação da Constituição da República Portuguesa e o Voto Contra do CDS, ao qual se seguem as primeiras Eleições Legislativas e o processo eleitoral das Presidenciais e das Eleições Autárquicas

The aim of this study is to elaborate the history of the Centro Democrático e Social (CDS) during the years of democratic transition (1974-1976) trying to understand throughout this period the contribution of this party to the construction of Democratic Portugal. At the same time, the evolution of the events of the Portuguese Revolution and the history of the CDS will be framed in order to better understand not only the conjuncture but also the interconnections that are being built as a reaction to the course of events experienced at the time in the Portuguese social, economic and political framework.This work also seeks to present a party that emerges shortly after the Carnation Revolution, a delay in relation to all the others that will condition its entire course, representativeness and ability to attract a wider public, as was the case with the exclusion from the provisional governments and administrative committees responsible for managing the municipalities as early as 1974. The year 1975 would also be a time of great challenges for the CDS, beginning with the incidents of the 1st Congress held at the Crystal Palace in Oporto, which was followed by the March 11 coup and all the implications it had for the political and social situation in Portugal at the time. The elections for the Constituent Assembly is another point of this work. The year 1975 was full of facts and national events in which the CDS would become involved and assume its responsibility as the founding party of Portuguese Democracy with representation in the Constituent Assembly.The years of democratic transition end with the year 1976, where this work will focus more on trying to understand and better explain the approval of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic and the CDS's vote against it. This is followed by the first Legislative Elections and the electoral process of the Presidential and Municipal Elections.
