Title: The university press and its new parameters of action as well
Authors: Rosa, Célia Regina de Oliveira; Marques, Maria Beatriz Pinto de Sá Moscoso
Abstract: This paper aims to identify whether the updating of workflows carried out by a university press from the perspective of a more associative performance despite harboring institutional, competitive differences related to the investment in publishing content produced by academics in favor of greater interconnectivity of the university press with its peers. It detects the importance of updating the profile of the essentially traditional publisher maintained preferably by supporting the publication of renowned academic authors, link to theing to resources and possibilities of collaborative access through platforms in order to add not simply the improvement in distribution facilitated by technology, suggested by some editors such as the participation of readers in the various stages of publication to foster interest in higher education content permeated by full open access. It should be noted that full open access integrates the other lines of publication and as a characteristic it can reinvigorate the publisher through the association of international academic freedom and the publication of open textbooks disseminated by an agency or association such as the American Association of University Professors, which highlights the work faculty members in content editing activities through the use of open publishing tools. As a general objective, it is intended to know the open access publications presented and distributed by the university press. As a specific objective it is intended to present the offered model of publications assembled by the Portuguese Association of Higher Education Publishers (APEES). The research question suggests that the possible updates added to the service strategy of the university press directly contribute to the offer of open access publications. The qualitative research methodology based on the exploratory approach uses keywords to search for documents in the chronological period from 2018 to 2022 selected from the Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts database as it contemplates topics related to Information Science. As result the associated structure of APEES and editorial innovations available in open access can be seen as a strong expansion of affiliated publishers in academic editing activities for open science communication initiated in 2006 and reinforced by adherence to the agency to support academic communication open in the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH). Itis concluded that some strategies employed by the university press allow the publisher to advance as a mediating agent of institutional production, however it is clear that many of the publications are supported by models based on paid access.2023-01-25T00:00:00ZO acesso (i)legal à informação científica: o papel dos bibliotecários de Instituições de Ensino Superior

Title: O acesso (i)legal à informação científica: o papel dos bibliotecários de Instituições de Ensino Superior
Authors: Ferreira, Beatriz Barrocas; Borges, Maria Manuel; Leitão, Helena
informação científica.; Access to scientific information is essential to produce new knowledge. Access to
information currently available on the Internet/World Wide Web, part of which is in
Open Access (OA), has been strengthened with the implementation of initiatives that
contribute to opening science under the umbrella of Open Science. Alongside these
initiatives, illegitimate and illegal ways of accessing scientific publications have
emerged, which conflict with the efforts made to consolidate OA, on the one hand,
and, on the other hand, can cause serious harm to users. Libraries of Higher
Education Institutions (HEIs) should pay attention to these issues and seek to
sensitize their users to the threats and consequences of using illegal access to
information in their institutions. In this sense, through a literature review, it is
intended to highlight the contribution of HEI librarians to the importance of ethical
and legal access to scientific information.2021-10-13T00:00:00ZThe Epistemic Cultures of the Digital Humanities and their relation to Open Science: contributions to the Open Humanities discourse

Title: The Epistemic Cultures of the Digital Humanities and their relation to Open Science: contributions to the Open Humanities discourse
Authors: Ferreira, Beatriz Barrocas; Borges, Maria Manuel
Abstract: The humanities reflect a great disciplinary diversity, marked by different practices of knowledge
production, which do not have a deep-rooted tradition of using computer-based methods in their
research processes. Digital Humanities (DH) follow an interdisciplinary orientation, which can bring
together a series of experimental approaches to some central questions of the humanities, applying
computational methods, but not only. DH are comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and heterogeneous and
are characterized by a great diversity of practices, which correspond to different epistemic cultures. The
discourse around Open Science (OS) seems to reflect a more focused discourse on scientific research
and communication practices, fundamentally inspired by the hard sciences, which does not seem to
consider the peculiarities and characteristics of the digital humanities fully. The main goal of this work is
to reflect on the inclusion of the epistemic cultures of DH in the OS discourse. As specific goals, it is
proposed (i) to describe the concept of epistemic cultures, particularly in DH, (ii) to identify the
approaches adopted by OS and relate them to those of DH, and (iii) to discuss the need for the existence
of a discourse dedicated to the opening of the humanities and to prove that DH contributes to it. An
exploratory qualitative approach was adopted, by conducting a literature review aiming to contextualize
the approach of epistemic cultures, particularly about DH and its relationship with OS. The practices and
environment for building scientific knowledge of DH were related to the principles of OS, considering the
multidimensionality of the scientific communication system. The conclusion is that the OS adopts a
unified view of science, not considering the different epistemic cultures, especially about the digital
humanities, and therefore, a specific discourse around the opening of the scientific process in this area
is necessary.2022-05-23T00:00:00ZInformation management and exponencial learning in Society 5.0: foundations for an integrated system

Title: Information management and exponencial learning in Society 5.0: foundations for an integrated system

Abstract: Individuals use the information to reduce discomfort, effort, and errors. Thinking about it, headphones were invented, so that the music could be heard without disturbing others; household appliances, to reduce the effort in washing dishes or clothes; and calculating machines, so that human distraction would not cause an accident in calculating the weight that a bridge could bear. But the information has hardly changed the certainties and doubts about which is the most suitable college course to attend; what are the best practices that could contribute to the individual’s daily life, during the academic career, which includes when and what to study, what to eat and what to do in their free time. It is undeniable that there is greater access to information, but many times, instead of browsing this information, the individual sinks into it. In addition, teachers and students remain stuck in the curriculum, with the same menu being provided for carnivores, vegetarians, or lactose intolerants. If before students were beaten with rules in their hands and were attacked psychologically, having to learn the same as everyone else, nowadays only rules have ceased to exist, at least in theory. Reducing errors in choosing a higher education course and the entire life that governs the academic path can be a dream for many individuals and an integrative system that collects information about the individual and guides him in his academic path could be an extremely useful compass. Know which college course to take; knowing which discipline, among the electives, to choose; know the right time to get up and sleep; what to do throughout the day; what and when to eat; they are all informational outputs that the utopian system could provide, in order to contribute to the individual’s success. This paper will attempt to discuss these issues, investigating part of the enabling technologies in today’s Society 5.0. The objective is to initiate a debate on the delegation to an integrative system of data, information, and knowledge management, the success of individuals and society.2021-02-22T00:00:00Z
