Authors: Santos, João Bessa
Abstract: The northern sector of the Kent Interlobate Complex, created by two
major ice lobes of the Laurentide Ice Sheet during late Wisconsinan times, dominates the
glacial landscape of northeast Ohio. The geomorphology of this impressive complex reveals
the presence of large hummocks, kettle lakes and substantial esker chains. The esker chains,
usually smaller than 1.3 km long, run parallel to the interlobate complex geographic
orientation of northeast-southwest. Gravel pits present on large hummocks display bedded
and sorted sedimentary units of gravel, sand and gravel and climbing ripple laminated sand
with folds, which demonstrate that the northern sector of the interlobate complex is
primarily a glaciofluvial feature. Topping these hummocks is a massive clast-supported
diamicton interpreted to be a debris flow. These geomorphic and sedimentary characteristics
seem to indicate that hummocks present in the interlobate area are in fact kames and that the
entire northern sector of the interlobate complex is a product of late Wisconsinan time
transgressive ice stagnation that occurred between two major ice lobes.; O sector norte do Complexo Interlobular de Kent,
Wisconsinan, domina a paisagem glaciária do nordeste do Ohio. A geomorfologia deste
-sudoeste, paralela à do complexo interlobular.
lobes de glace.2012-01-01T00:00:00ZOutdoor thermal perception in different climatic regions. Abstract: People living in different climatic regions have adapted to specific weather
conditions and their tolerance to high temperatures and wind speeds is diverse. This study
analyses the effect of thermal adaptations on the thermal perception of users of outdoor
spaces in two different regions: Taichung (Taiwan) and Lisbon (Portugal), by means of field
surveys and measurements of weather parameters. The thermal acceptable range, representing
the satisfaction of people with thermal conditions, was calculated based on the Physiological
Equivalent Temperature (PET) and the results obtained for each region were compared.
People in Lisbon are less satisfied with higher values of PET than in Taiwan, due to
the adaptation of local people to higher values of air temperature and relative humidity in
Taiwan. On the contrary, people in Lisbon showed a higher tolerance to strong wind, as a
result of their exposure to higher average wind speeds than those in Taiwan. The results
demonstrated that people’s thermal perceptions vary with different climatic and cultural
background. The influence of thermal adaptations in the use of outdoor spaces can contribute
to improve the quality of these spaces, adapting them to the preferences of local users.; As populações de diversas regiões climáticas estão adaptadas a determinados estados do tempo
On a comparé l’influence

ensino da linguagem, através das novas tecnologias.; The use of new mobile technologies has become a global phenomenon. There is
“a global mobile youth culture” and an “emergency of the sociability in a network” (Castells
et al., 2009: 183-184). This study main goal is to understand the mobile phone
use by the millennials, and inherent gratifications and social effects generated by the
use of such equipment. The research carried out through a mixed methodology that
met the quantitative and qualitative research included the analysis of 649 questionnaires
applied to young adults and 46 posts obtained from the Facebook webpages of the main telecommunications operators in Portugal. The flow effect among other
results revealed by structural equation model, may serve as a warning to the users
themselves, parents, companies and schools, which act as educational mediators of
language, through new technologies.2019-01-01T00:00:00ZTumor carcinóide do timo – Caso clínicoCarvalho, LinaFernandes, Luís EugénioFerreira, FilipeJanuário, FilipaRobles, DiogoSanches, InêsVaz, EdgarAntunes, Manuelhttps://hdl.handle.net/10316/1027642022-10-12T20:31:21Z2010-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Tumor carcinóide do timo – Caso clínico
Authors: Carvalho, Lina; Fernandes, Luís Eugénio; Ferreira, Filipe; Januário, Filipa; Robles, Diogo; Sanches, Inês; Vaz, Edgar; Antunes, Manuel
Abstract: Os tumores neuroendócrinos primários representam
cerca de 4% do total dos tumores do mediastino anterior,
incluindo o timo, afectando mais homens que
mulheres numa razão de 3:1 e apresentando uma
maior incidência entre os 40 e os 60 anos. Antigamente
classificados como timomas, desde 1972 são
considerados um grupo distinto de neoplasias tímicas,
podendo ser biologicamente activos, estando sobretudo
associados à síndroma NEM -1 (19 a 25%
O estadiamento
é o parâmetro mais importante para determinar
a sobrevida.
a sobrevivência a longo prazo, independentemente do
account for about 4% of anterior mediastinal
tumours concerning thymus localization. They appear
to have a male predilection (3:1 ratio) and occur
mostly between 40 and 60 years of age. Classified primarily
as thymomas, they have been considered a different
group of thymic neoplasia since 1972. They
can be biologically active, mostly associated with
MEN -1 (19 -25% of patients and more aggressive in
these cases).
As a locally invasive disease, with recurrence and metastasis
in a high percentage of cases, it correlates with
a poor prognosis. Staging is the most important determinant
of survival. Encapsulated tumours diagnosed
in early stages have an excellent prognosis,
while locally invasive tumours in more advanced
stages have a relatively poor prognosis as happens
with thymomas. Complete surgical removal is the critical factor for
long -term survival rates and the basis for treatment of
all thymic tumours, independent of histologic type.
As an important cause of death, especially in carcinoid
tumours associated with MEN -1 and Cushing’s
syndrome, some authors advocate the need for profilactic
thymectomy in these patients.2010-01-01T00:00:00Z
