Biography
PhD student in Veterinary Sciences at the University of Évora / Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra-Portugal, with an emphasis on Ophthalmology, Master by the Master Program in Veterinary Medicine of Small Animals with emphasis on Ophthalmology, by the University of Franca, with a scholarship granted by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES).Equivalence of Academic Degree of Master in Veterinary Medicine recognized by European higher education institution (University of Évora). Graduation in Veterinary Medicine at the Centro Universitário Moura Lacerda. It also has numerous formation in the field of veterinary ophthalmology. He was a Professor at the Graduate and Postgraduate Course of Veterinary Medicine at the Instituto de Desenvolvimento Educacional do Alto Uruguai. Member of the Order of Veterinary Physicians and Member of the Regional Council of Veterinary Medicine of the State of São Paulo in the period from 2011 to 2019 and of the Regional Council of Veterinary Medicine of the State of Rio Grande do Sul in the period from 2013 to 2017. Has academic experience and work in the area of Veterinary Medicine, in animal clinic and surgery with an emphasis on Veterinary Ophthalmology. Dr. Guimarães' main scientific interest is photodynamic therapy (PDT) applied to cancer treatment with an emphasis on ocular neoplasms. In this field, he develops studies related to the effectiveness of photodynamic therapy in ocular melanoma, both in vitro and in vivo. Dr. Guimarães has been working in multidisciplinary teams focused on research in ophthalmology and oncology, contributing with his knowledge about primary cell cultures, cellular, molecular techniques and animal models. At the same time, it contributes to scientific dissemination and networking, actively participating in projects related to ophthalmology and cancer research. Dr. Guimarães develops his work at the Institute of Clinical and Biomedical Research of Coimbra (iCBR) and is a member of the teams of researchers CNC.IBILI-UC current Institute for Clinical and Biomedical Research (iCBR), area of Environment, Genetics and Oncobiology (CIMAGO), Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, Portugal and Institute of Mediterranean Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (ICAAM), University of Évora, Portugal. Fellowship Holder Researcher by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), within the scope of the Photodynamic therapy as an approach for canine ocular melanoma project.
