His research team works currently in several projects, mainly focused on the development and characterisation of nanodelivery systems for targeted drug delivery. In 1996 he completed his doctorate research regarding characterisation of inclusion complexes formed by hydrophilic cyclodextrins (CD) and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). His research is also conducted on the study of the inclusion complexes, in matrix systems and in the microencapsulation of peptide drugs for controlled drug release. Additionally, he has shown great interest to work in nano- and micro-carrier-based formulations for delivery and controlled release of drugs, such as microemulsions, nanotubes, ethosomes and micelleplexes. On this regard, Francisco Veiga is author or co-author of, 8 books, 28 book chapters, 257 journal articles, 2 patents, and 1 provisional application (h-index 56).
