Biography
Maria do Céu Rodrigues de Sousa. Ph.D. in Pharmacy, speciality in Microbiology and Parasitology; Assistant Professor in Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Coimbra (UC), Coimbra, Portugal. Researcher at CNC/UC. Supervise/d more than 100 Post-Doc, Doctoral thesis and Master thesis on the area of microbiology and parasitology, specifically in epidemiological, therapeutic and pathogenic aspects of human protozoa parasites. Published more than 50 peer reviewed papers. She is/was PI/coordinator of 10 funded projects and participate as investigator in 4 ongoing research projects. Participated in 150 academic juries of PhD thesis (including European PhDs), master's thesis, curricular units of doctoral programs, and curricular internships. Reviewer of 5 International Projects, 10 National projects and 48 papers for 38 indexed journals. Organized 1 International Congress, 2 National Congresses, 3 Workshops and 1 Advanced Course. Published 10 new nucleotide sequence of Giardia lamblia in National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). Her research is focused in infections with Giardia lamblia (giardiasis) and Leishmania sp. (leishmaniasis) evaluating the impact of genetic variability of parasite isolates in host-parasite interaction and in the discovery of new antiprotozoal drugs.
